A compromise between -
extremes.

Not the middle -
between an imaginary
left and right.

A potent antidote -
to the excesses
of populism.

A focus on moderation
and pragmatism; an embrace
of complexity; a deep and
unwavering commitment to
liberal democracy.

An understanding of the value of
compromise; a belief in equality
of opportunity.

The most effective approach
to dealing with complex and
ever-changing challenges.

Managing the tensions -
between competing sets of values.

A trust that through balancing
the tensions that exist in every nation,
we can make people’s lives better.

A change of pace and perspective this week - with Parts 2 and 3 to follow.

This piece was inspired by an article I read a short while ago: ‘The Center Must Hold: Why centrism offers a dramatic break from the trajectory of politics across the world.’ By Yair Zivan.
